My American Horror Story Coven Influenced OOTD

I'm totally obsessed with the fashion from American Horror Story Coven. All the hats, gloves and scarves take me back to my youth in the 80s. I used to wear hats and gloves all the time. I'm not really sure why I stopped. I'm totally bringing it back. I put together this look to show off my new floppy hat. I picked this hat up on Ebay for $11 shipped!! How can you refuse for that price. While it is not quite as big as I would like it totally works. I hope I will find one a little larger in the near future.

The dress I'm wearing is from Pink Clove. I picked this dress up about a month ago. Unfortunately they no longer have it in stock. I was late to the party with this dress. When I found it, it was on clearance. I think I picked it up for $15 plus shipping. The price point on the stuff at Pink Clove is excellent. Some of the stuff is typical and not overly exciting, but they did have a few stand out pieces like my dress. When I found my dress I totally feel in love with it. I was really fond of the ombre like fade on the fabric and the wiccan inspired print. I'm not sure that the light mid section of the dress is very flattering on my figure. It doesn't much matter because I love the style of it so much. I will still wear the heck out of this piece.

I have always been a scarf girl. I buy a lot of scarves. I really love them, but I don't actually wear them that often. They mostly hang around my house looking fabulous. When I saw this triangle eye print scarf at ASOS I knew I MUST own it. It reminded me so much of Sioux Sue and my favorite years in the 80s. This scarf is huge. As you can see from the images it hangs all the way to the ground. I am 5'6. I will be able to use this scarf so many ways. I will love looking at this one hanging around. It really makes me smile every time I see it.

I finished off my look with a new shade of lipstick, Purple!. I have not worn a purple lip in many years. To tell you the honest truth, I had kind of forgot it was a lipstick color. I get so wrapped up in my varying  shades of red, I sometimes get lost. I have been into trying matte lip stains lately. I picked this one up at Pretty Zombie Cosmetics. I'm wearing shade 3 Witches. I wasn't sure I could pull this color off, but I'm really happy with it. I was not able to find a purple lipstick that was matte and had staying power at Sephora. My Pretty Zombie stain was $11 and shipped really fast. I would love to hear feed back on any stains you have tried. I'm always looking for new lips.

In this outfit I feel completely dressed to kill and I could be the next supreme.

Hell Bunny Colorado Dress

I have to apologize for the lack of posts lately. There are so many new things I have picked up and I have been dieing to blog. It has been so cold here in Canada that I have not wanted to get out of my flannels. I'm really dieing for spring so I can wear and show off some of my new dresses. I'm really going to try and kick it up a notch and post at least once a week. I have also been pretty busy lately with Everyday is like Halloween. I assumed I would get slow after the holidays, but that has not been the case. Thanks to everyone who has been buying my creations. I love making new and unique pieces for you.
This past weekend I had double family birthdays so I decided to put away the long johns and put on something pretty. The dress I picked out for the event was Hell Bunny's Colorado dress. This dress is covered in a bandana print and is available in classic bandana colors, red, blue and black. I have to admit the first time I saw this dress, I didn't think much of it. I didn't give it a second look. It wasn't until I saw this dress on Michelle of Sweet Echo Plus that I had to have it. It's is such a flattering dress. I totally love the cut of the neck line and the way the dress tappers in at my waist. Another major plus is the pockets. Who doesn't love a pocket? At first I was a little concerned that this style would not look good on me or that it would not even fit. Most of the items I have bought from HB have had a stretchy back panel that help accommodate my large bust. This dress has no stretch and no panels. Considering Hell Bunny's size chart only goes up to a 48" bust, I think this dress fits pretty great. My bust is 52". I'm wearing the Colorado dress in a size 4X. I wanted to address the arm holes for this dress. I'm part of a group on Facebook called Fattoo. Some of the girls in this group had expressed concern about the arm holes on some of the Hell Bunny dresses. My upper arms are 18" and I have no problem with the arm holes on this dress. I think if your arms are above 20" the holes will be tight. I don't imagine it would be a costly fix to have them made a bit bigger, However, I wanted to address the fact the arm holes were not stretchy or large.
I can't express now wonderful it is to find a dress that fits you like a glove and makes you feel like a sexy vixen. This dress is everything!!

If you wanted to pick this dress up, it's currently in stock in sizes 2X-4X. You can find it  HERE.  The Colorado has been out for quite sometime so I would image once it's sold out, it will not
be re-stocked.

Additional items I'm wearing....

Nuclear Red Hot Hair

For as long as I can remember I have wanted bright gorgeous red hair. All the way though high school I was obsessed with Kate Pierson of the B-52's. I have to admit a large part of the obsession was the hair. She had this huge bee hived mane of the most fantastic red hair I had ever seen. As I worked my way though the rouge box colors from l'Oreal, Nice and Easy and Garnier, the dream began to fade. Nothing seemed quite right. While there was nothing wrong about these reds, they just weren't Kate's color. I caught a break my senior year of high school. My best friend and I got tickets to see the B-52's Good Stuff tour. I totally was going to find a way to get back stage, ooggle up the B-52's and get Kate's secret hair recipe! The night of the show came and we did in fact get back stage. Turns out the B-52's really love their young fans and were super awesome! My moment had arrived and here I stood in front of this red-headed goddess. Intimidated by her celebrity I barley got my question out. Kate was gentle in breaking the news. A wig!! URG! NOOOO! And, with that the dream died until.....

NUCLEAR RED!!!!!!

Since high school in the early 90s, I have discovered bright and funky semi permanent colors. My hair really has been every color of the rainbow. I have also pretty much tried every brand under the sun. My norm for many years had been a black base with chunks of bright colors. About a year and a half ago I got tired of the whole switch up and decided to get back to following the dream. The process of coloring removing the black began. It was during this process I met my true hair color love...Special Effect Nuclear Red.

There are many things I love about Special Effects Nuclear Red. A wicked cool fact about the Nuclear red shade is it glows under black light. How freaking awesome is that? It's the brightest red you will ever find. I love that this red has an orange base. Most of the bright reds you find have a pink base. I really dislike when my red hair fades to pink. Special Effects comes in a 4 oz bottle and when applied  lasts approximately 3-6 weeks. I would suggest only washing your hair every few days for maximum staying time.
The only thing I dislike is the stain factor. I always manage to get some somewhere on my skin and this stuff stains really good. Like any bright semi color does. I do have to mention, however, that I have never had a problem with the color leaving marks on my pillow. I have had that problem with other brands of color. There is no way to get around leaving semi colors on your toweling when washing. Be aware that you will color towels if you use semi color. I have been using black towels for many years.

Special Effects Nuclear Red is a Semi Permanent color which means you have to lighten your hair or have naturally light hair to achieve the brightest results. My hair naturally is medium brown. Every six weeks I need to lighten my roots and do a color touch up. You can totally use a lightener such as bleach on your roots to do this, but I find it's damaging. I have found a lift and deposit color that is very close to my Nuclear Red. I use L'Oreal Professional's majicontrast in RED. I mix this color with a 30 Volume developer and apply it just to my regrowth of hair. After about 40 minutes I wash it out, dry and apply the Nuclear Red to my whole head. I have found this is what works best for me and has left my hair with minimal damage.

You can find Special Effects Nuclear Red and L'Oreal Majicontast RED in many online shops. Amazon almost always carries both.

I love my red hair so much.

It has been many years in the making. It's a lot of work with upkeep, but I can't see myself changing it anytime soon.

If I want a change I'll buy a wig ;)
